An exciting opportunity has arisen for a backend developer to work in IPC Digital. The successful candidate will work on high profile websites with internationally renowned magazine brands.

The successful candidate will have extremely good knowledge in all aspects of symfony development and will possess strong technical knowledge of PHP and MySql.

A demonstrable history of working on high profile sites is a must and experience of Agile development methodologies is very desirable.

Essential Skills

• Strong MySql and PHP skills. (Knowledge of other server side languages such as Python, Perl or Java is advantageous.)
• Extensive experience of working with symfony or other framework – CakePHP, Code Ignitor, Zend etc.
• Extensive experience of using the UNIX/Linux command line.
• Extensive experience of using SVN or other version control systems (Bazaar, Git, CVS).
• An understanding of how to configure and administer Apache and MySql.
• An understanding of common backend performance issues.
• An understanding of common security issues including XSS, SQL injection and CSRF.
• Experience of working with a dedicated QA team and adhering to a formalised QA and release process.

Desirable Skills

• Familiarity with frontend development technologies and an understanding of the importance of modern web standards.
• Experience of unit testing. Ideally some experience of TDD.
• Experience of writing automated tests (Selenium or other).
